Konsorcjanci projektu SUMEX zapraszają na warsztaty „How can sustainable mining in Europe be supported? Connect with other practitioners!”, gdzie będą omawiane wyzwania dla górnictwa w kontekście sytuacji firm na północy Europy (EU Region North (Sweden, Finland, Denmark). Spotkanie partnerskie odbędzie się w dniach 20-21 kwietnia 2022 r. w Helsinkach w Finlandii.

Program spotkania:

20 kwietnia, godz. 9:00 – 16:00 EET: Prezentacje i przykłady dobrych praktyk do omówienia na sesjach grup roboczych

21 kwietnia, 10:00 – 13:00 EET: Wizyta w lokalnym zakładzie wydobywczym

SUMEX to 36-miesięczny projekt finansowany przez Komisję Europejską, który rozpoczął się 1 listopada 2020 r. Projekt ma na celu ustanowienie ram zrównoważonego rozwoju dla przemysłu wydobywczego w Europie, przy zaangażowaniu interesariuszy ze społeczeństwa obywatelskiego, środowisk akademickich, przemysłu i rządów z w całej UE.

5 obszarów zainteresowania projektu to: planowanie przestrzenne, pozwalanie, ocena oddziaływania społeczno-gospodarczego i środowiskowego, BHP oraz raportowanie.

Tematyka spotkania będzie skoncentrowana na ocenach oddziaływania społeczno-gospodarczego i środowiskowego oraz udzielaniu pozwoleń. Oprócz prezentacji głównych prelegentów dotyczących przykładów dobrych praktyk w zakresie zaangażowania społecznego, licencji społecznej na działalność w zakresie górnictwa na małą skalę i ramowej dyrektywy wodnej, wydarzenie to będzie koncentrować się na dyskusjach w mniejszych grupach. Po warsztatach wszystkie prezentacje będą dostępne online dla zarejestrowanych uczestników.

Podczas spotkania należy przestrzegać wszystkich lokalnych przepisów dotyczących COVID-19. Analizowana także będzie aktualna sytuacja geopolityczną w Europie.

Udział w warsztatach dla zarejestrowanych uczestników jest bezpłatny. Dostępne jest niewielkie stypendium, aby wesprzeć uczestników w zrekompensowaniu kosztów podróży.

Ostateczna agenda i dokumenty przygotowawcze zostanie wysłana przed warsztatami. Ze względu na ograniczony rozmiar tego wydarzenia organizatorzy mogą nie być w stanie potwierdzić wszystkich rejestracji. Po rozpatrzeniu wniosku na początku kwietnia zostanie wysłana wiadomość z potwierdzeniem.

Region North Workshop:
How can sustainable mining in Europe be supported? Connect with other practitioners!
20-21 April 2022

Dear actors in the extractives sector,

The SUMEX project team is happy to invite you to our next regional workshop for the region North. This physical peer-learning event will be held on 20-21 April 2022, in Helsinki, Finland.

• 20 April, 9:00 – 16:00 EET: Presentations and good practice examples to be discussed in working group sessions
• 21 April, 10:00 – 13:00 EET: Site visit to a local extractives facility

What can you expect?

This workshop gives you an opportunity to connect with each other, share knowledge and share with the SUMEX project information useful to improving sustainable management of extractive industries in Europe.

In this regional workshop we will focus on socio-economic and environmental impact assessments and permitting. In addition to presentations from key note speakers on good practice examples in Community Engagement, Social Licence to Operate in Small Scale Mining and Water Framework Directive, this event will centre around discussions in smaller group sessions. Since this is to be a networking workshop, the event is held in person. After the Workshop, all presentations will be available online for the registered participants.

Regarding Coronavirus regulations: The event organisation shall comply with all local COVID-19 regulations. And of course we will keep an eye on the geo-political situation in Europe.

Why are you invited?

We aim to bring together representatives of different policy and administrative levels, extractive industries, permitting authorities as well as civil society.

You are part of the community that engages in sustainable mining in Europe, especially in the North region (in SUMEX: Denmark, Finland and Sweden). Your knowledge and experience can be a valuable input to others whilst you learn interesting approaches from other stakeholders.

We will send out the final agenda and preparation documents before the workshop. Due to the limited size of this event, we might not be able to confirm all registrations. We will send you a confirmation message in early April after assessing your application.

How much does attendance cost?

Workshop attendance for registered participants is free of charge. A small stipend is available to support participants in offsetting travel costs.

What is the background?

Numerous solutions, strategies and best practice examples towards sustainable mining in Europe already exist. At the same time, important actors frequently lack appropriate opportunities to benefit from the knowledge and experience of other practitioners; they see the need for further capacity building.
To help fill this gap, the SUMEX project is hosting a series of peer-learning workshops on sustainable mining in different subject areas. The 5 focus areas are:

1. land use planning,
2. permitting,
3. socio-economic and environmental impact assessment,
4. health & safety, and
5. reporting.

These workshops are planned in four EU geographical regions to strengthen the regional network and to minimize efforts for travel. The following four workshops are planned as physical events:

• EU Region North (Sweden, Finland, Denmark) – 20-21 April 2022
• EU Region East (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Bulgaria) – 31 May-01 June 2022
• EU Region South (Portugal, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, Malta, Cyprus) – 22-23 June 2022
• „Bringing it all together“ in Brussels – November 2022
